Best accommodation location in Bali

A record 3,000,000 people visit the paradise island of Bali each year making it one of the most impressive areas in Indonesia to visit. Still reminiscent of the original island some 500 years ago, the Balinese people have a rich religious culture. The island is an impressive venue for those seeking the true tropics.

Bali is very small; visitors can drive around the entire coast of Bali in a day’s trip. However, the area is so profound; you would not want to overlook the enormously interesting history and variety found within the numerous suburbs located throughout Bali. Bali has been extraordinarily developed within the last few years. Isolation is not a word exclusive to Bali any longer.

Not wet weather but unusual for the season

The recent wet weather in Bali was an extraordinary event and does not mean that the start of the annual rainy season begins earlier. The sky is clear on the island after cloudy days with frequent showers, sometimes heavy, with the breeze from the southeast normally dry blowing across the eastern Indonesian archipelago at this time of the year. Forecasters believe that the rains are unusual in relation to the onset of El Nino climate pattern. The rainy season usually begins in Bali in December and lasts until the following March.

Georgina Bannet

After four years away from surfing because of college, George has been back in the water for about one month now. She first tried surfing when she was 15 as her house was close to Sanur Beach and she would also surf at Padang Galak Beach, well known for its strong current. She usually surfs with her friends who live nearby. Unfortunately she has to go back to Australia soon to continue her studies at the University of Sydney in the law faculty. She hasn’t been surfing in Australia as she needs to focus her time on her studies. She is currently working at Surfer Girl as the marketing manager, a job she loves because her coworkers are solid and she can still go surfing. George is also an animal lover and she has 3 dogs that often go to the beach with her. She told us about a bad experience she once had while surfing at Lembongan, she wiped out and scraped her arm on the fire coral. “My arm felt like it was on fire. Hot and painful combined” In spite of that she still loves surfing at Lembongan because the beach is so clean. George, who is mixed English/Hong-Kong, loves surfing as a hobby and hopes to keep improving her surfing. She hopes her life will be like summer. Bright, happy and successful.

Magic Wave Surfing Competition

Magic Wave Surfing Championship is a monthly contest organized by Magic Wave to get the Kuta teenagers together, especially the surfers, to be part of the committee. I Gede Ananda is a young surfer who has already achieved a lot. The shadow of his
father, legend surfer Ketut Menda, is difficult to separate from this young man known as Nanda, but Nanda has proved himself in his role as Contest Director at MSC.

Setting contest dates, designing flyers, banners, backdrops and T shirts for the contest, choosing and organizing the judges, controlling the contest timing and running the contest program are not easy tasks but his manner and experience with surfing make his work easier. “Because I have been around surfers since I was small it’s not too hard to find judges” he explained. There are more than a few obstacles to overcome such as being late and getting the equipment ready. “It would be ideal to get everything ready the day before but we have to do it a few hours before the contest starts and sometimes we run late” explained Nanda, who also likes photography.

Nanada agrees that apart from the aim of the MSC to develop the ability of the under 14 surfers and give them competition experience, the MSC also hopes to show teenagers, especially those from Kuta, how to organize contests. So far only a few have been interested. “Maybe because of a lack of experience, or they feel inadequate or shy because they under-value what it takes to run a contest. Running a contest is a way to develop surfing in Indonesia.” he said. Nanda also hopes that the government will pay more attention to such activities and provide some support, not only in issuing permits but also some financial support because these contests give the young Kuta guys contest experience and also promote surfing in Indonesia, particularly Bali, to the world.

Sunset Coast Surfing

This is the place where the Indonesian surfing movement was born. The charm of surf is everywhere, Kuta concentrate the most important surf shops in the world. There are types of waves for everyone, where you’ll learn and improve your balance or try to confront with the local surfers.

Pererenan

Located north of Canggu is divided in two different peaks. The first one offers a good righthander and a fast but regularly sectioning left. The right walls up and heads toward a deep water channel, is usually a cruise but sometimes barrels. The second peak works as the opposite of the first peak, the left breaks toward a channel and the right sections. Best during mid to high tide with less than 6ft swell before close out. With Canggu catch up twice as much swells than Kuta.

Canggu

A varied beach break set up over soft rock ledge, consisting of a long lefthander and a shorter right. The left can line up and peel into a tube, and the right is principally a drop and a short wall that you can really hook into. Work best at mid to high tide, and the optimum size is for Canggu is 5ft to 6ft.

Blue Ocean

Located in Seminyak, 66 beach, a popular beach break, fun lefts and rights spill all over the place, preferably at higher tide and during moderate swells.

Padma

Located in Legian, a place of lined up lefts and rights breaking toward each other. During high tide periods you can slash, ricochet and air all the way to the beach. Closes out above four to five feet.

Halfway

The most famous spot of Kuta Beach can be ridden upon all tides, but low tide with a bigger swell usually produces more lined up waves.

Kuta Reef

The first wave to be discovered a while ago, located about a half kilometer out to sea. That is a long and sometimes nearly perfect lefthander that peaks, walls up, thunders all the way to the inside and gives up the occasionally barrel ride. Most of the time is crowded by locals, best at mid to high tide and wind conditions have to be nil to light.

Airport Lefts & Airport Rights

Airport Rights, a wonderful wave that concertinas into a big bay just to the right of the airport runway. Sometimes a righthand wave that can kick. Its require a solid and strong swell, best at mid to high tide and wind conditions nil to moderate winds.
Airport Lefts, “Pertamina”, usually as big as or bigger than Kuta Reef. Decent and fun lefthanders are there for the grabbing, a primary take-off peak and then a second peak which jacks up on the first peak’s shoulder.

Galungan Ceremony

The day commemorated as the victory day of "Dharma" (virtue) upon "Adharma" (evil) according to the old history of Bali (Purana). This day the Hindus thank the God and feel grateful for His blessing and for the creation of the earth and its contents. This day is the day of rituals, festivities and celebrations with "Penjor" the artistically decorated bamboo-pole stuck at every house entrance, adorning the both sides of the village-roads symbolizing of prosperity.

There are several processions need to be done to celebrate Galungan Day:

PENYEKEBAN (3 days before Galungan)
On this day, people begin to prepare the necessities for the Galungan ceremony. They collect fruits and store them in a special place until they get ripe.

PENYAJAHAN (2 days before Galungan)
On Penyajahan day, people keep on maintaining awareness, patience and the purity of the soul in order to control the demons. Another meaning of Penyajahan is making or cooking Balinese cakes (jaja). Therefore, on this day, people have to cook various kinds of Balinese cakes for the ceremony to come.

PENAMPAHAN (1 day before Galungan)
This is a sacrificial day. This is the day to slaughter sacrificial animals like chickens, ducks or pigs. People cook them into various kinds of Balinese food, such as satay, soup, lawar (a special Balinese food made of meat or vegetables, mixed with coconut sauce).

GALUNGAN DAY
On the Galungan day itself, Balinese Hindus go to temples and other holy places to pray. People are dressed in colorful Balinese costumes. Women carry the offerings on their heads and men bring palm leave offerings in their hands, while the children walk hand in hand next to their parents.

Around 250 delegates from countries in asia europe and the united states along with representatives from 10 animal welfare will gather in Sanur from august 24 to 29.

The participant will include the london-based world society for the protection of animals (WSPA),The animal society of taiwan (EAST),and the korean animal welfare association (kawa).

Bali was selected as the conferencesite because many animal owners on the island were still treating pets or livestocks in a poor manner.

The new law was expected to grant more power and the governments animals welfare foundations and the governments animal husbandary agencies as well as stipulate firmer punish ments for those who abuse animal.

With heavier legal sanctions there will be a new hope for a more conducive atmosphere on animal welfare in this country.

This law is already out of date and in desperate need of improvement as it doesnt view animals from the animal welfare perspective and only stipulates minimum legal sanction for violators.
